WHAT
IS A PARALEGAL?
A
paralegal is a vital cog in the machinery of our legal system, a
professional who is exposed to a broad spectrum of individuals and
situations everyday. They interview people, assist in the preparation
of witness statements, research the law, investigate cases, evaluate
facts, interpret legal documents, write memoranda of law, search
titles, review title reports and attend real estate settlements.

The
Paralegal Program incorporates a comprehensive curriculum that familiarizes
the student with a wide range of relevant legal topics through practical,
hands-on training. Today, paralegals are assuming a much greater
role in the practice of law, with firms learning that the lawyer
who works with a competent, well-trained paralegal is more productive.
The training received at the American Center for Technical Arts
& Sciences, Main Line Paralegal Institute, is designed to provide
you with the very skills that make the professional paralegal in
such high demand. Paralegal career opportunities are available in
law offices, governmental agencies, banks, trade unions, insurance
companies, community organizations and businesses.
PROGRAM GOALS, REQUIREMENTS, & COURSEWORK
Comprehensive General Practice Paralegal- This is a day program
designed to provide students with a quick career transition. It
meets five hours a day, five mornings a week for 30 weeks, or a
total of 720 clock hours. The morning schedule allows students to
maintain part-time jobs. A six-week externship is required.
General Practice Paralegal- This program meets two evenings a week
and consists of 11 core courses totaling 485 hours. To qualify,
students must document sufficient education in the required computer
areas.
General Practice Paralegal with Computer Applications- This is an
evening program with the same curriculum as the General Practice
Paralegal Program, with the addition of computer applications courses.
Each course is held two or three evenings per week and one Saturday
per month, for a total of 545 clock hours. It can be completed in
12 months.
