Program Goals, Requirements, & Coursework
The Medical Laboratory Technician Program will involve you in 50 weeks of
classroom lecture and laboratory instruction that will enable you to become thoroughly familiar with the actual
laboratory setting. As the program progresses, the student will gain knowledge
and understanding by performing clinical procedures in clinical chemistry,
hematology, blood bank, microbiology, serology, virology, and urinalysis. The
student then participates in a 10-week clinical externship to gain hands-
on experience. Students are required to obtain a physical examination, PPD and
RPR prior to externship. By the end of the classroom
instruction and externship, you will have received the training necessary to
allow you to assume routine responsibilities in the laboratory. This includes
assisting the physician in determining the presence and extent of disease as
well as the implications for their cause by the use of various laboratory tests
and procedures.
